Recipe Roundup: Spring Mocktails and Aguas Frescas

by Lauren Steinhardt May 07, 2015

Spring is here, Mother’s Day is around the corner and it’s time to celebrate with the whole family! We’ve got Mom covered with our Queen Bee classic collection, waxed canvas bags, and our fabulous bins and cases. To help you celebrate, we’ve gathered these recipes for fresh, easy nonalcoholic beverages everyone can enjoy (plus a few sweet champagne cocktails just because).

Aguas frescas are a classic sunny day beverage. Lighter and fresher than most store-bought juice, agua fresca is usually made from fresh strained fruit, steeped floral or herbal flavors, water and sweetener to taste. The result is a lightly sweet, flavorful drink that’s supremely refreshing on a hot day. Watermelon is my absolute favorite, but this recipe for raspberry hibiscus agua de jamaica looks positively irresistible. Would not say no to papaya lime tho.

For subtle flavor, jazz up your table setting by whipping up a quick and easy pitcher of flavored water. It really is easy breezy - just put the flavoring ingredients in the water and let it sit for a bit! Instant classy.

You can make any drink special with the magic of floral ice cubes. You don’t have to be Martha Stewart, but you do need edible flowers and an ice cube tray. I find that borage flowers work beautifully and infuse the ice with a delicate cucumber flavor.

For more intense flavors, try a drink with a base of infused simple syrup. The syrup can be stored in the refrigerator and mixed with soda water as needed. Check out this groovy recipe for Cucumber Ginger mocktails, or freestyle your own flavored syrups with this tutorial from Refinery29. Garnish with fresh herbs, berries, or edible flowers for the perfect spring beverage.

If you’re looking for something hands on, put those kids to work muddling scrumptious Strawberry Mini-jitos. Fun to make, and fun to drink!

Champagne brunch with mom is a tradition you don’t want to miss? Just add champagne to that watermelon agua fresca to create spectacular “mom”osas! These pom mimosas are also simple and delicious. Or whip up a whole pitcher of sparkling breakfast sangria.

However you choose to celebrate, we wish you a wonderful weekend in the sun! Stop by the store this Friday evening for a special 20% off event, or check out our free shipping promotion, all day this Saturday.
