One of our favorite local artisans that we carry at the Queen Bee shop is Hoo Hats. Designer Charlotte Cooper was inspired to make an owl hat for her son and when the adorable hat got so many compliments, she decided to turn her creation into a small business. Each Hoo Hat is made from an upcycled sweater and adorned with carefully chosen fabric eyes that compliments the hat color. Fabric ties secure the hat under the chin. These hats make a wonderful gift to a special child (or kid-at-heart) in your life - they come in sizes to fit everyone from babies to grownups!
We have a nice selection of colors and sizes in the shop now, waiting for holiday gift giving. We also have a selection of sweet needle-felted ornaments also made by Charlotte - tiny owls (of course) and wee mushrooms.
I recently got a peek into Hoo Hats headquarters and snapped some shots of Charlotte's stash of sweaters waiting to become hats, her pile of owl eye fabrics, hats cut and ready for assembling, and even her scrap basket, which is beautiful in and of itself.
My son picked out a Hoo Hat a couple of years ago and all I can say is that whenever he wears it, he stays warm and brings smiles to the faces around him. I think we can all agree that the world could always use more smiles, right?
Our selection of one-of-a-kind Hoo Hats is available in the shop. If you live out of town, give us a call and we're happy to help you pick the right color and size over the phone and ship it to you: 503.232.1755.
